Warren Correctional Institution is a
multi-custody prison facility housing male inmates in close, medium and minimum
custody environments.
The largest inmate population at Warren CI consists of about 576 medium-custody
inmates. A 168-single cell building houses intensive control medium and
close-custody inmates. The facility also houses approximately 88 minimum-custody
inmates.
The opening of Warren Correctional Institution in 1997 permitted the
consolidation of five smaller prisons in surrounding counties.
On August 18, 1997, the prison received its first medium custody inmates. The
168-single cell building opened May 18, 1998. In August of 1999 the two modular
dormitories opened housing approximately 88 minimum custody inmates. Another
168-single cell building was completed in August of 2004.
A new janitorial products plant for Correction Enterprises is currently under
construction at Warren Correctional Institution. When complete, Correction
Enterprises will relocate its janitorial products plant, which produces soap and
industrial cleaning products, from Harnett Correctional Institution in
Lillington. The new plant is being constructed by inmates participating in the
Inmate Construction Program, working under the supervision of engineers from the
DOC Central Engineering section.
