SEPTEMBER 29, 1995

RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Correction joined other state agencies on the information highway today.

The department's Internet homepage provides a variety of information, photographs and statistics about managing the state's 28,000 inmates and 115,000 probationers and parolees.

"Schools and libraries equipped to access the Internet will now have an important resource of information about the department," said Correction Secretary Franklin Freeman. "The Internet is another tool we can use to help anyone with a computer and modem understand the fine job our officers do every day."

The department's Internet information includes current news releases, photo stories about inmates at work and correction statistics.

The Internet information will be on display at the Department of Correction booth at the Dixie Classic Fair in Winston-Salem through October 8 and at the State Fair in Raleigh, October 13 through 22. The correction booth at the Dixie Classic Fair will be in the coliseum annex. At the State Fair, the correction booth will be in the Scott building.
