HARRELL APPOINTED JDM IN EASTERN NC

RALEIGH - Correction Secretary Mack Jarvis has named Robert M. Harrell judicial district manager for 6B which includes Hertford, Bertie, and Northampton counties.

"Mr. Harrell is a dedicated and able employee who has moved up through the ranks," said Secretary Jarvis. "His leadership skills and more than two decades of experience in probation and parole will make him effective in his new position."

A native of Murfreesboro, Harrell started with the Department of Correction in 1970 as a probation officer. He was promoted to intensive officer in 1991 and appointed chief probation and parole officer in 1994.

"I'm excited about the new position," Harrell said. "I hope to help probation and parole officers in district 6B rehabilitate more offenders in the community to help relieve the overcrowded prison population."

Harrell graduated from Murfreesboro High School in 1963 and Chowan College in 1968 with an AA in Business Administration. He also earned a BS from then Atlantic Christian College in Wilson in 1970.

Harrell served two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Ft.Ord, California.

He is a member of American George Lodge #17, Roanoke Chowan Shrine Club, Sudan Temple in New Bern, and Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.

Harrell is the son of the late Rex Harrell and Dorothy Harrell of Murfreesboro. Harrell and his wife June Bennett Harrell have one son, Bryan.
