PERSONNEL CORNER

The N.C. Employee Suggestion System was established by legislative action and is managed by the Department of Administration. The objective of this program is to reward state government employees for their creativity and clever thinking on ways to promote savings and eliminate all forms of waste in state operations and services.

The rewards are up to $5,000 in cash for suggestions that provide monetary savings, up to three days of annual leave may be given for ideas that monetary value cannot be determined and certificates for suggestions providing intangible benefits such as more efficient procedures and forms and improved employee morale, health and safety.

A suggestion that would normally be expected in the performance of the employee’s job duties and responsibilities will not be considered for a reward under the Employee Suggestion System. However, the Ketner Award, which is different from the Employee Suggestion System does allow employees to make suggestions in the performance of their won job duties and responsibilities. A Ketner Award recipient may receive up to $1,000.

All suggestions should be sent to N.C. State Employee Suggestion System, N.C. Dept. Of Administration, 116 W. Jones St., Raleigh, N.C. 27603-8003, (919) 733-2566. Once received the suggestion is reviewed, evaluated and a recommendation is made to the Employee Suggestion System’s executive secretary.
