Steve Muller Named to Head Sampson Correctional Center

CLINTON - Correction Secretary Mack Jarvis named Steve Muller superintendent of Sampson Correctional Institution effective Oct. 1.

"Steve Muller has the vision, leadership and communication skills necessary to be an effective manager," said Secretary Jarvis. "He is very energetic and enthusiastic, and he’ll do a good job."

Muller began his career with the Department of Correction in 1973 as a correctional officer at Blanch. He transferred to Alamance Correctional Center in 1975, where he was promoted to sergeant, and transferred to Guilford Correctional Center in 1976. Ten years later he was promoted to assistant superintendent at the same prison. Muller became superintendent at Gates Correctional Center in 1995.

In his new position, Muller will supervise 200 staff and 460 medium and minimum custody inmates.

Muller studied biology at Western Carolina University and Elon College. He studied criminal justice at Guilford College. Muller is on the Pasquotank River Yacht Club Board of Trustees and was a volunteer with Museum of the Albemarle at Elizabeth City.
