DOP Program Employees Honored
ATLANTIC BEACH Three program employees were recognized for their leadership and outstanding service to the Department of Correction during the annual Program Services Conference held in Atlantic Beach.

Sorrell A. Saunders, program director
I at Southern Correctional Institution, received the
Leadership Award; Harrison Avery Verble, program
supervisor at Marion Correctional Center, received the
Outstanding Program Supervisor Award; and Teresa Barnes,
program assistant II at Pender Correctional Institution,
received the Outstanding Program Assistant Award. Saunders supervises the institutions substance abuse programs, the inmate mens club, coordinates the community volunteers and special events for the inmate population. In 1995 Verble was charged with the task of developing and implementing all educational services to be offered to inmates at Marion. He secured all furniture, equipment, and supplies and pursued various grants to fund several educational development programs. Barnes single-handedly restructured the inmate libraries at Pender and, within the past six months, acquired more than 700 books. She has also organized the PCI talent show and various other programs. |
