DOC truck driver killed

A Department of Correction truck driver was killed in an accident on Interstate 40 in Raleigh Nov. 16 when another truck struck his vehicle.

Bill Davis was a long distance truck driver for DOC Central Engineering. Davis was a contractual employee who had worked for the department for two and a half years.

The accident occurred when Davis stopped the DOC tractor-trailer shortly after noon off I-40 near the I-440 exit. He was trying to adjust the truck's load. While Davis stood beside his truck, another tractor-trailer crashed into the parked truck. Davis was killed on impact, and the other truck's driver was injured

Davis, 54, was retired from the West Hartford, Conn., police department. He and his wife Dorothy lived in Zebulon. They have two sons, Shawn, 29, who is serving in the Air Force in Panama, and Robert, 28, of Bangor, Maine.
