Neuse plumber killed fighting fire

GOLDSBORO — Hubert Sidney Jones, 29, plumber II at Neuse Correctional Institution, was killed Friday, Nov. 6, fighting a fire south of Goldsboro. Another firefighter, Robbie Blizzard, was also killed fighting the fire. Jones served as the volunteer chief of the Thoroughfare Volunteer Fire Department. He had worked as a volunteer fireman for 10 years, serving as chief for the last four years.

Jones had been employed at Neuse since Nov. 15, 1994. He had just recently been promoted to the position of plumber II from that of grounds maintenance supervisor. Jones also served as a fire safety instructor and hazard materials instructor at Neuse.

He is survived by his daughter, Hannah; parents, Theodore and Margie Jones; and a sister, Alice Jones.

The Wayne County Fireman's Association has established the Sidney Jones Memorial Fund at BB&T, Post Office Box 1677, Goldsboro, N.C. 27533. Contributions maybe made directly to that address.
