Female boot camp dedicated

HOFFMAN More than 200 departmental employees and community members gathered in Hoffman June 2 to help Correction Secretary Mack Jarvis, Commandant John Taylor and other dignitaries officially dedicate the department’s first female boot camp.

With the cut of the red ribbon, the $1.9 million IMPACT boot camp officially opened for business. Built for young female offenders between the ages of 16 and 30, the new female boot camp has room for 60 offenders at one time.

A month earlier, the new dining hall built at IMPACT East was dedicated in memory of Samuel O. Huggins. Huggins, a former major of IMPACT East, died in 1996 from a brain tumor. u
