After 30 years, accounting chief retires

RALEIGH — Accounting chief, Hilda Painter, said she is going to miss the people, but not the work.

She is retiring after 30 years of work in the accounting office. She started when the office was in a little room in the basement of the Randall Building.

Now the staff has gone from a manual to an automated accounting system, overseeing the budget which has grown from less than $100 million 30 years ago, to more than $800 million today. u
