Execution Media Advisory

Death row inmate James David Rich is scheduled for execution Friday, September 18, at 2 a.m. at Central Prison in Raleigh. Rich was convicted in Greene Superior Court and sentenced August 28, 1995 for the murder of 45-year-old- Paul Sanford Gwyn, an inmate at Eastern Correctional Institution.

Media who need to photograph the death watch area and the execution chamber in Central Prison may do so Monday, September 14. This will be the only time news media will be allowed into the execution chamber before the execution.

Newspaper, television and radio reporters and photographers should be at Central Prison's visitor center promptly at 11 a.m. Media should bring a photo I.D. and media identification. Warden James B. French will explain execution procedures. The session will last one hour.

James Rich is among 184 inmates on death row. Rich has refused further media interviews.
