Robert E. Chriscoe, a correctional officer at Lumberton Correctional Institution, suffered a heart attack while on duty on third shift as he was patrolling a dormitory Aug. 2. Co-workers quickly summoned assistance, but Chriscoe passed away while en route to the local hospital.

Chriscoe, 42, had been employed at Lumberton Correctional Institution since May 1998. Surviving Chriscoe are his wife, Brenda; two sons, Robert E. II and Ronnie; and a daughter, Kandida.

Pat Chavis, superintendent at Lumberton, said overwhelming support from co-workers was evident in the overflowing attendance at the wake and funeral services.
