Keel Execution Media Advisory

Death row inmate Joseph Timothy Keel is scheduled for execution Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at 2 a.m. at Central Prison in Raleigh. Keel was convicted March 30, 1993, in Edgecombe Superior Court for the murder of his father-in-law, John Simmons, July 10, 1990.

Media who need to photograph the death watch area and the execution chamber in Central Prison may do so Monday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m. Cameras and tape recorders are allowed. This will be the only time news media will be allowed into the execution chamber before the execution.

Newspaper, television and radio reporters and photographers should be at Central Prison's visitor center promptly at 10 a.m. Media should bring a photo I.D. and media identification. Warden R.C. Lee will explain execution procedures. The session will last one hour.
