Body Identified as Odom Prison Escapee
JACKSON – A state medical examiner has informed officials at Odom Correctional Institution that a body recovered Friday evening from the Roanoke Rover is an inmate who escaped from the prison May 15.
Charles Hill, superintendent at Odom, said he received notification from the medical examiner’s office in Chapel Hill this morning that the body is that of Gustavo Giraldo. The medical examiner’s office will not release a cause of death until an autopsy is completed.
Giraldo, 27, had been serving a life sentence for first-degree murder at the time of the escape. Giraldo’s body was discovered by a fisherman at approximately 3 p.m. Friday and the body was removed from the river at 6:55 p.m. Friday.
