BAYBORO- A reception will be held at Pamlico Correctional Institution on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 10:00 am.

The department assumed operations of Pamlico from Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) on Oct. 1. CCA had operated Pamlico, along with Mountain View Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, since 1998.

Pamlico Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility that is designed to house 528 adult male inmates. The facility employs 216 staff and has an annual operating budget of $13 million.

Among the expected speakers are Correction Secretary Theodis Beck, and Division of Prisons Director James French. Local government, business and civic leaders are among the invited guests. Following the program, there will be limited tours of the facility.

Directions: Pamlico Correctional Institution is located at 601 North Third Street in Bayboro. From Raleigh, take Highway 70 east to Highway 55. Stay on Highway 55 until you get to the courthouse in Bayboro. Turn left onto State Road 1002. The facility is about 2 miles on your left.

From the Cherry Branch-Minnesott Ferry, take Highway 306 to the stoplight in Grantsboro. Turn right onto Highway 55 and turn left at the courthouse in Bayboro.

From the Bayview-Aurora Ferry, take Highway 306 to Highway 33. Turn left onto Highway 33 and proceed to State Road 1002 (Bay City Road). Turn right. The facility is approximately 13 miles on your right.
