EXECUTION DATE SET IN SEXTON CASE

RALEIGH – Correction Secretary Theodis Beck has set Nov. 9 as the execution date for Death Row inmate Michael Earl Sexton. The execution is tentatively scheduled for 2 a.m.

Sexton, 34, was convicted Sept. 24, 1991 in Wake County Superior Court. He received the death sentence for the Aug. 8, 1990 murder of Kimberly Crews, a counselor whose office was located at the Wake Area Health Education Center at Wake Medical Center. In addition to receiving the death sentence, Sexton was also sentenced to life sentences for first degree rape and first degree sexual offense, 40 years for first degree kidnapping and 10 years for common law robbery.
