EXECUTION DATE SET IN TUCKER CASE

RALEIGH -- Correction Secretary Theodis Beck has set Dec. 7 as the execution date for Death Row inmate Russell William Tucker. The execution is tentatively scheduled for 2 a.m. at Central Prison.

Tucker, 34, was convicted Feb. 21, 1996 in Forsyth County Superior Court. He received the death sentence for the first degree murder of Maurice Travone Williams. At approximately 10 p.m. Dec. 8, 1994, Tucker was witnessed leaving the Kmart on University Parkway in Winston-Salem with stolen property. Tucker shot and killed Williams after Williams and another security guard approached him.

In addition to the death sentence, Tucker is serving sentences for second-degree murder and armed robbery in the Nov. 9, 1994 shooting death of Winston-Salem cab driver Richard Wall.
