MAN FACING CHARGES IN JOHNSTON
COUNTY
COMMITS SUICIDE AT CENTRAL PRISON
RALEIGH -- A man sent to Central Prison to await the outcome of pending charges in Johnston County was pronounced dead this morning shortly after prison staff found him hanging inside a bathroom at the prison hospital. A note was found near the body.
Curtis Lee Woodall, 31, was admitted Friday night to Central Prison as a safekeeper from Johnston County. Woodall was in the prison hospital after receiving a gunshot wound during his arrest. Medical staff discovered Woodall’s body at approximately 3:30 a.m. today. He was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m. by Central Prison medical staff. Woodall was last seen alive by prison staff at 3:05 a.m.
The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the case, as is standard procedure following such incidents.
