CLINTON- Sao Ka, a 31-year old inmate housed at Sampson Correctional Institution, died this morning at 1:20 a.m. at Sampson Regional Medical Center after an accident at the institution.

Ka was assigned to a second shift job in the Correction Enterprises laundry and was operating a dryer when the accident happened. Preliminary reports indicate that at 11:55 p.m. Ka’s body was pinned between a dryer and an electrical box. Staff performed CPR, called 911 and Ka was transported to the hospital where he later died. Correction officials are conducting a full investigation with assistance from local law enforcement.
