Opening planned for new Bertie County prison WINDSOR – Correction Secretary Theodis Beck will dedicate the new Bertie Correctional Institution on Monday, May 22, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. Construction is complete, and the Division of Prisons expects to begin moving inmates into the 1,000-cell close-custody facility in July. The prison will employ about 400 people, including correctional officers and administrative, food service, medical, dental and maintenance staff. Anthony Hathaway is the administrator for Bertie Correctional Institution. Robert Jones is the assistant superintendent for custody and operations, and Larry Teele is the assistant superintendent for programs. Employees will conduct tours of the new prison following the dedication ceremony. News media representatives interested in a tour should be present at the main entrance and should bring a valid photo ID.
