Execution date set for James Adolph Campbell

RALEIGH - Correction Secretary Theodis Beck has set Feb. 9, 2007, as the execution date for inmate James Adolph Campbell.  The execution is scheduled for 2 a.m. at Central Prison in Raleigh.

Campbell, 45, was sentenced to death July 8, 1993, in Rowan County Superior Court for the first degree murder of Katherine Price.  He also received two consecutive life sentences for rape, a consecutive sentence of 40 years for armed robbery and a consecutive sentence of 10 years for burning personal property.

On July 28, 1995, the North Carolina Supreme Court affirmed Campbell’s conviction and sentence of death.

On Dec. 11, 2006, the Supreme Court of the United States denied Campbell’s petition to review the decision of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, dismissing his appeal and causing this execution date to be set.
