Carteret Correctional Center has new leader

NEWPORT -- Mike Hardee is the new superintendent at Carteret Correctional Center, a minimum custody prison that houses 300 adult male inmates and employs a staff of 73 officers and administrativeMike Hardee personnel.

Hardee, who was previously assistant superintendent for custody and operations at Pamlico Correctional Institution, succeeds Anthony Florence, who transferred to Pamlico Correctional.

Beginning his career in 1988 at the now-closed Martin Correctional Center, Hardee rose through the ranks at the Martin, Greene, Duplin and Eastern correctional facilities and in the Division of Prisons’ Eastern Region Office. He was named assistant superintendent at Pamlico Correctional in June 2003.

The East Carolina University (ECU) graduate earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice in 1988. He has completed the Department of Correction’s Correctional Leadership Development Program and has an Advanced Corrections Certificate.

Hardee is married and has two children. He enjoys spending time with his family, outdoor activities and ECU football and basketball.
