Death row inmate dies of natural causes RALEIGH -- A man on death row for killing his father in 1986 has died of natural causes. Gary D. Greene, 59, was pronounced dead shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday at Central Prison. He was sentenced in August 1987 in Caldwell County for the murder and armed robbery of V. Pressley Greene, his father. Gary Greene received a death sentence for the murder and to a concurrent 40-year sentence for the robbery. In September 1991, Greene’s death sentence was vacated and he was granted re-sentencing, which resulted in a new death sentence in May 1998. # # #
