New system provides automatic alerts to probation officers

RALEIGH – A new tool is now operational that alerts state probation officers when an offender on their caseload is arrested or convicted and when a warrant or order for arrest is issued.  Training on the new tool is currently available and all of the state’s probation officers will be required to use the tool on a daily basis starting Jan. 1.

The new web-based tool became operational Oct. 29.  It allows officers to review their entire caseload and quickly see which offenders have new arrests or convictions since the previous day.  It is incorporated with an online caseload roster that officers already use, eliminating the need to log in to multiple systems.

The Department of Correction (DOC) developed the tool that matches new arrest and conviction data from the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) with information in the DOC offender database.  As probation officers review their caseload roster, offenders with new arrests and convictions are highlighted in red and additional information on the new arrest or conviction is one click away.  In the near future programmers plan to add data on non-arrestable infractions such as traffic violations.

The Department of Correction developed the tool for a one time cost of less than $75,000.
