Search underway for inmate escaped from Wilkes CC

NORTH WILKESBORO - Law enforcement and corrections officers are searching for inmate Eric Burns, who escaped from Wilkes Correctional Center Wednesday night.  Burns was discovered missing during a routine inmate count shortly before 9 p.m.

Burns had recently begun serving a 10-month sentence for two counts of misdemeanor assault on a female.

Wilkes Correctional Center is a minimum-security state prison in North Wilkesboro housing approximately 260 adult male inmates.

Anyone with information on Eric Burns' whereabouts is asked to call their local law enforcement agency or Wilkes Correctional Center at 336-667-4533.
