Search under way for escaped inmate

NORTH WILKESBORO - Corrections and law enforcement officers are searching for an inmate who escaped Sunday morning from the minimum-security unit at Wilkes Correctional Center in North Wilkesboro.

The inmate was reported missing between 9 and 10:15 a.m.  He apparently climbed over the facility fence on Statesville Road.

The inmate is 23-year-old Gregory L. Blevins, (#0730492) who is serving a two-year, five-month sentence for assault on a female. 

Anyone who has seen the inmate or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call Wilkes Correctional Center at (336) 667-4533 or by contacting law enforcement officers in areas near Wilkes County.
