Prison response team and Wake Tech to hold escape training exercise

RALEIGH – Prison Emergency Response Team members and instructors from Wake Technical Community College will hold a training exercise simulating the escape of several prison inmates beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at Raven Rock State Park in Harnett County.

Correctional officers and canine handlers from the Division of Prisons will practice their command and control, search and tracking methods while seeking “escapee” role-players trying to evade them.

Instructors from Wake Tech, which provides correctional training for several prison facilities, will coordinate the exercise. 

A portion of Raven Rock State Park will be closed to the public during the exercise.  No live weapons or ammunition will be used.

Directions:  Raven Rock State Park is located at 3009 Raven Rock Road, nine miles west of Lillington.

From US 421, turn onto Raven Rock Rd and go three miles to the park entrance.  Once inside the park, signs will direct you to the training exercise area.
