Ruth Dupree Ends 40 Decades of Service

By Bryan Bass

Ruth Dupree retired in June after nearly 40 years of service to state government. Dupree, who supervised the five Regional Employment Offices, said there is "no nicer group of people" than those in DOC. She went on to say, "I'm real proud of what the Regional Employment Offices have accomplished."

Though her last official day of employment was June 29, she has returned to work part time while she trains her replacement, Nancy Lipscomb.

Dupree's plans for retirement are simple. "I want to do whatever I want to do whenever I want to do it," she said. She said she enjoys reading and retirement will allow her more time for that. She'll also have more time to travel and spend time with her family, which includes her husband of 30 years and a new grandson. Dupree said she wants to stay active and is considering work with the retiree utilization program.

Dupree started working as a clerk-typist for the Office of State Personnel in 1960 shortly after she graduated from high school. She came to DOC personnel in 1981.
