Background

The curriculum section supports more than 800 instructors in NC DOC and works with a number of Community Colleges and Universities. Annually, this section can anticipate supporting more than 3500 trainees seeking job certification. In addition, in-service training needs of approximately 19,000 employees of the agency require continuing and progressive training programs. Some of these programs are Basic Training, Instructor Training, Prison Emergency Response Training, Supervisory Training and Correctional Leadership Development for Managers.

This section of three staff development specialists, two staff Person at Desk development technicians, (temporary hires) a test and measurements technician, an administrative specialist, plus a manager, are responsible for researching, reviewing, approving, and publishing more than 500 active lesson plans and supportive visual and audio aids.

In addition, the Curriculum section is responsible for State level certification examinations for persons in certified positions and for promotional examinations. Reports are prepared annually in keeping with procedures and State and Federal Guidelines. The Curriculum section has data collection systems that will permit electronic exchange of data with other offices and agencies.
