Field Training Coordinators (FTC) and Correctional Training Instructors (CTI) in a variety of ways have served as catalysts for aiding DOC staff in receiving training essential to career growth and development.
Qualified applicants who require or request a reasonable accommodation for the mandated training must make that request on the “Request for Reasonable Accommodation” Form (DC-730T) prior to the final offer of employment. The Department of Correction School Director will consider the request within the normal guidelines of the Department of Correction Personnel Manual (Section, pages 100-103). Approved reasonable accommodation requests will be shared with the Managers and the applicant to ensure the applicant's continued consideration for employment.
Applicant should demonstrate a combination of education and experience in criminal justice and proficiency in the instructional process to the satisfaction of the commission.
Refer to C.J. Administrative Code .0303 Title 12 Chapter 9 for general Instructor Certification, .0304 for specific instructor certification and .0305 terms and conditions of specific instructor certification.
Any course that is recognized by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Generally, these are Basic Training Courses, Instructor Courses, and 800 or 900 series In-Service Courses.
Applicant completes Form F-12 and attaches documentation of highest level of education and copy of certificate from General Instructor Training Course.
Instructor must instruct an 8 hour block of instruction within the certification period - 12 months for probationary and 24 months for general and specific. An on-site evaluation must be completed by an instructor certified in the area of instruction. The evaluator completes an F-16 C.J. Instructor Evaluation Form. An instructor must have an overall rating of 3 - Average.
