If an employee dies in the line of service, the family will be offered the services of the Employee Memorial Program. The program offers the participation of the Department of Correction Honor Guard in the funeral service or wake, presentation of a state flag previously flown over the State capital to the family of the deceased, and a letter from the Governor.
An annual Employee Memorial Ceremony will be held each May in Raleigh to honor those that died in the line of service during the previous year. Families of the deceased employees will be invited and those that wish to attend such as co-workers, and others will be welcomed.
