8/18/2006 - Flippen is executed and pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m.

8/18/2006 - U.S. Supreme Court rejects appeal to stop the execution based on arguments that North Carolina's lethal injection method of administering the death penalty is unconstitutional. Other courts reject efforts to delay the execution based on rules limiting the number of execution witnesses.  Gov. Mike Easley declines to grant clemency. 

07/11/2006 - Execution date set for Samuel Flippen

3/7/1995 - Flippen was sentenced to death in Forsyth County Superior Court for the murder of his two-year old stepdaughter,  Britnie Nichol Hutton.
