Correctional Social Worker II

 This level position gathers information for social histories and psychosocial assessments through interviewing and recording responses of inmates, contacts with inmates' families, and retrieval and review of inmate records. Under supervision the Social Worker II may also conduct individual and group counseling activities using cognitive, behavioral, and supportive techniques. This position provides consultation to various correctional staff concerning the management of inmate behavior and coordinates outpatient mental health clinics by obtaining outpatient records, scheduling inmates, and providing observational data to clinic staff. The Social Worker II coordinates case management services for MR/DD cases and may act as the MR/DD representative for inmates during departmental committees and hearings. This position requires at least a Bachelor's Degree in social work from an accredited program and eligibility for certification as a "Certified Social Worker" conveyed by the Board of Social Work in North Carolina.

Correctional Social Worker III

 By virtue of being certified to practice at an independent level in Social Work, this position, in addition to the general social work activities above, also conducts individual and group treatment activities with difficult and clinically complex cases. This position is usually found in specialized treatment programs where greater involvement in assessment and treatment of individuals in sensitive and traumatic situations must occur and where supervision of treatment staff and other social work staff must be provided. This position requires at least a Master's Degree in clinical social work from an accredited program and eligibility for certification as a "Certified Clinical Social Worker" conveyed by the Board of Social Work in North Carolina.
