Randolph Correctional Center, near Asheboro, is a minimum security prison for adult males.

Randolph was one of 51 county prisons for which the state assumed responsibility with the passage of the Conner bill in 1931. It was one of 61 field unit prisons renovated or built during the late 1930’s to house inmates who worked building roads.

Original dormitory at the prison continues to house inmates today. In 1986, inmates under the supervision of correctional engineers erected a recreation building.

The General Assembly provided for a 104 bed dormitory as part of the $28.5 million Emergency Prison Facilities Development program authorized in 1987. The dormitory and recreational building were opened in 1988.

The prison has a dental clinic which serves the Piedmont Region inmates. It also has 100 beds designated as Long Term Care. The Long Term Care inmates are not ready to be housed in the general population because of medical problems.

Randolph Community College works with the prison to provide adult education and preparation for GED test.

Inmates may be assigned to work on regional maintenance, maintenance, librarian, recreation clerk, barber, canteen operator, clothes house or kitchen help at the prison.

Visitation:
Visitation hours are from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday by alphabet rotating on a quarter basis. To set up a special visit call (336) 625-2578 and ask for the programs department. Individuals MUST complete and have on file an approved visitation application. ALL visitors must have an approved visitors application to include all minor children.

Take U.S. 220 bypass to the McDowell Rd. Exit in Asheboro N.C. At the top of the exit ramp (going north make a right and south make a left) and drive to the second stop light. Make a right.
