Security Maximum Control (HCON) unit, as it's officially
named, there are no frills. The 8 1/2-by-10-foot cells, even the beds, are concrete. The cell comes with a mattress, a concrete stool and concrete writing desk, a stainless steel toilet, sink and mirror, a shower and a small window facing outside. Smoking, TVs and radios are forbidden. Inmates have no contact with each other and virtually none with correctional officers." |
