Offender Workforce
Development

inmate welding

Each year, more than 22,000 inmates are released from North Carolina's state prisons to return to their families and friends in communities across the state. One of the most important factors affecting the success of these ex-offenders is their ability to get hired and hold a steady job.  An ex-offender who is gainfully employed is three times less likely to commit another crime. Through transition and education programs, the Department of Correction works to prepare inmates for the workforce upon their release, so that they can become productive, taxpaying citizens.

Ex-offenders have served their sentence paid their debt to society. Many have outstanding skills to offer in the workplace.  All they need is an employer willing to give them a chance.
