WEISNER MOVES TO TOP SPOT AT WESTERN

Morganton -Reggie Weisner is the new prison superintendent for Western Youth Institution effective July 1.

A native of Iredell County, Weisner has worked with the Department of Correction since June 1974 when he was hired as a program assistant at Iredell Correctional Center. Weisner moved to Davie Correctional Center in 1984 where he served as program supervisor and later assistant superintendent.

He was named superintendent of Yadkin Correctional Center in 1988 and was promoted to district manager for the Western Area of the Division of Prisons in 1992. He has served as assistant command manager for the Geographic Command of the Division of Prisons since May 1997.

"Reggie Weisner is a manager and a leader," Correction Secretary Mack Jarvis said. "Weisner’s 23 years of experience working in corrections will serve him well as superintendent at Western Youth Institution."

Western Youth Institution is a close security prison that houses 830 male youth, 22-years old and younger. The 16-story high-rise prison opened in 1972.

Weisner graduated from North Iredell High School in 1969. He attended Wilkes Community College and graduated from Appalachian State University in 1973.

Weisner and his wife Vanessa have two sons Matthew and Adam.
