Bob Smith died suddenly from a fall in his home in August. The affable
Smith retired from Western Youth Institution as the assistant superintendent
for programs in March 1996.
Smith had a gift for working with troubled teens. Correction Secretary Mack Jarvis was part of the team who hired Smith in 1971 and their two families became close friends. Jarvis said, "Bob was a dynamic person. He started many of the programs used today for youthful offenders. Bob was a large-hearted person with bucket-loads of enthusiasm for his job." |
