Inmate shot and killed during escape attempt
TROY - Inmate Jody E. Osborne, 22, was shot by correctional officers shortly after 8 p.m. Friday after he scaled the fence at Southern Correctional Institution. Osborne was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after 9 p.m. As Osborne climbed the fence, two officers fired shots at him from nearby watch towers. He was apprehended about 100 yards outside the prison fence and taken for medical treatment. Osborne was convicted in Guilford County on 12/11/2000. He was serving a sentence of 27 years, 2 months and 20 days for these crimes:
Southern Correctional Institution is a close custody prison near Troy in Montgomery County. It houses approximately 720 male inmates. # # # |
