Inmates Make Giant Valentine For Schoolchildren
TROY - Inmates at Southern Correctional Institution are making a four foot tall teddy bear for Valentine’s Day for special needs children at Norwood Elementary School in Norwood.
The inmates are assigned to the Blanket Recovery Project, which made nearly 12,000 blankets for the Red Cross and other non-profit organizations last year. They also make mats, school supply organizers, painting smocks and hand puppets for local schoolchildren.
There will be media availability at Southern Correctional Institution on Thursday, Feb. 8 for those who wish to obtain photographs and video of the Blanket Recovery Project. Reporters and photographers should be present at the main entrance at 1 p.m. and should bring a valid photo ID.

Directions:
From Raleigh- Take U.S. 1 south toward Sanford. Just past Sanford turn right onto 15-501/N.C. 24/27. Stay on N.C. 24/27 to Troy. At Troy, take N.C. 134 north to Glenn Road. The facility is located on that road.
From Greensboro- Take I-85 to U.S. 220 to N.C. 24/27 to Troy. At Troy, take N.C. 134 north to Glenn Road. The facility is located on that road.
From Charlotte- Take N.C. 24/27 east to Troy. At Troy, take N.C. 134 north to Glenn Road. The facility is located on that road.
