Victim Services gets new director "Sandy Dixon brings several years experience working with victims of crime," said Secretary Beck. "I am confident her expertise will be an asset to the department and the citizens we serve." As director, Dixon will work closely with the Division of Prisons, the Division of Community Corrections and other sections to help ensure victims of crime are more involved in the criminal justice process and that they understand the department’s policies and operations. "I am very excited about the job and the possibilities," said Dixon. "My goal is to not only provide services to victims, but also to assist department employees in their work with victims." Dixon has 10 years experience working with victims and offenders. For the last four years she has worked at the Governor’s Crime Commission as a victims program planner. Prior to that she worked for Summit House, a community based sentencing program, in community relations and development. She has also worked at rape crisis centers in Durham and Orange counties. A longtime resident of Raleigh, Dixon received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1992 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dixon is originally from Yorktown Heights, New York. Dixon replaces Karen Taylor George who in September took the job of executive director of the North Carolina Association of County Directors of Social Services.
