Inmate dies at Foothills Correctional Institution MORGANTON – Inmate Robert R. Adams, 20, was found hanging in his cell at Foothills Correctional Institution in Morganton during a routine check at 6:36 p.m. Wednesday. Correctional officers and prison medical staff performed CPR, but Adams was pronounced dead when EMS personnel arrived. Adams’ body has been taken to North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for an autopsy. The Burke County Sheriff’s Department has investigated with a preliminary finding of suicide pending the results of the autopsy. Adams was serving 92 years in prison. He was convicted of second degree murder for the December 1999 death of Eric Fowler in Greensboro. He was also serving sentences for armed robbery, burglary, assault and robbery with a dangerous weapon. # # # |
