Pre-trial detainee critically injured in apparent suicide attempt BUTNER – Curtis Dixon, 21, was critically injured Tuesday night in an apparent suicide attempt. At approximately 7:20 p.m. last night, Dixon was being escorted to his cell when he broke away from a correctional officer. He ran to the top of a nearby cellblock staircase and jumped head-first to the floor, three levels below. Prison medical staff responded immediately. Granville County EMS transported Dixon to Duke University Medical Center at approximately 8 p.m. Dixon was being held in state custody for New Hanover County where he was facing first degree murder, rape and kidnapping charges in connection with the death of UNC-Wilmington student Jessica Faulkner. At the request of the Department of Correction, the State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into this incident. # # # |
