Correction employees to be honored for excellence APEX – The Department of Correction will honor 35 employees for outstanding service during a ceremony at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20. The gathering, which is part of the State of North Carolina’s Excellence in State Government Week, will take place at the department’s Office of Staff Development and Training in Apex. An employee from Morrison Correctional Institution in Richmond County will be named as the 2004 winner of the public service award; another employee, who works at Marion Correctional Institution in McDowell County, will be named as this year’s heroism and safety honoree. DOC employees from across the state are nominated for their work within the department or in their community. Directions: The Office of Staff Development and Training is at 2211 Schieffelin Road in Apex. North of Raleigh, traveling on US 1 South. Follow US 1 through Raleigh to Exit 96 (Ten Ten Road). Exit to the right and at stoplight and turn left onto Ten Ten Road. Go .1 of a mile and turn left onto Schieffelin Road. Go about 1 mile and stay with the road through a hard right turn. Look for a water tower and the OSDT building on the right. Drive past the water tower and turn right into the student parking lot. Go into the building and sign in at the desk. South of Raleigh/Apex traveling on US 1 North. Follow US 1 to Exit 95 (Hwy. 55 West). Exit to the right. Turn left at the top of the ramp turn onto N.C. 55. Turn right at the second stop light onto James Street. Go to Schieffelin Road and turn right. Go about .2 of a mile and turn left into the student parking lot of the OSDT. Go into the building and sign in at the desk. Toward Raleigh on Interstate 40. Take exit 293 onto US 64 East/US 1 South. Take to Exit 96 (Ten Ten Road). Follow directions from #1 above. East of Raleigh traveling on US 64 West. Follow US 64 through Raleigh. US 64 will join I-40. At Exit 293 exit onto US 64 East/ US 1 South. Stay on US 1 South to Exit 96 (Ten Ten Road). Follow the directions from #1 above. # # #
