Inmate dies in electrical accident AYDEN – Inmate Jorge Figueroa, 44, was electrocuted Wednesday in an accident while he was working with a municipal utility crew. Figueroa was working for the Town of Ayden under an inmate labor contract. While assisting two town employees, he was electrocuted when he came into contact with a utility pole anchor. Figueroa was transported to Pitt Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Prison officials have been unable to notify next-of-kin and have requested assistance from the Mexican Consulate in locating members of Figueroa’s family, who are believed to reside in Mexico. Figueroa was serving a 4 year and 10 month sentence for attempted drug trafficking and drunk driving. # # # Editors: A digital photo of Jorge Figueroa (#0596533) is available by using the “Offender Search” on the NCDOC website at www.doc.state.nc.us |
