Marvin Burley named prison Volunteer of the YearRALEIGH – North Carolina Division of Prisons today honored Marvin M. Burley Jr. as the prison volunteer of the year. Burley is a religious services volunteer at Greene Correctional Institution in Maury, where he has served for over 25 years. As member of Gideons International, Mr. Burley distributes Bibles to inmates as he listens to them and shares his message of faith. He has provided invaluable service to the facility during this time said Superintendent Russell Ginn. His pleasant, friendly, and caring demeanor makes him a popular volunteer with the inmates and staff at Greene. His work goes beyond the inmate population as he shows a sense of care and concern for the staff. Mr. Burley and his wife Sallie are the parents of two daughters. He served in the US Air Force and is a retired principal with the North Carolina School for the Deaf.
