Probation managers meet to learn new sex offender monitoring program RALEIGH – Community Corrections managers from across the state will meet in Raleigh Nov. 20 and 21 for and informational meeting and training on the state’s new program of satellite-based monitoring for certain sex offenders. Managers will be briefed on the new legislation, introduced to the team that will manage the sex offender monitoring program and get a look at the new GPS equipment the program will use. Hotel WHEN: Monday Nov. 20 beginning at 1:30 p.m Media availability with probation officials and equipment vendor representatives at 3:30 p.m. Sexual predators, sexual recidivists and those convicted of aggravated sex offenses after August 16, 2006 must submit to lifetime GPS monitoring beginning Jan. 1, 2007. Probation officers across the state are training now on the new program’s policies and procedures. Officers will start training on the technical aspects of GPS equipment operation in early December. The first group of qualifying sex offenders will be placed on GPS monitoring on Jan. 1, 2007.
