Escaped inmate wanted in Greenville area

EDITOR’S NOTE:  The inmate was taken into custody about 5:15 p.m. on Monday.

GREENVILLE – The Department of Correction is searching for inmate Billy Barfield Jr. (#0018975) who walked off from a work assignment today.

Barfield, 34, was assigned to a Department of Transportation work crew based in Pitt County.  When that crew stopped for lunch at a Sonic restaurant on Greenville Boulevard, Barfield left the crew.

 Barfield was serving a nine-month sentence for misdemeanor assault on a female and willful injury to property.  He was convicted in Wilson County and admitted to prison on July 31.  He is a minimum-custody inmate assigned to Greene Correctional Center in Maury.

 Anyone with information on Barfield’s whereabouts is asked to contact local law enforcement or Greene Correctional Center at 252-747-3676.
