Inmate escapes from work crew in Vanceboro

VANCEBORO - A minimum-security inmate escaped from a Community Work Crew in Vanceboro this morning. Inmate Robert Powell, 29, was serving a four year and nine month sentence for conspiracy to commit burglary, breaking and entering and driving while intoxicated.

The inmate work crew from Greene Correctional Center was clearing roadside ditches near downtown Vanceboro when Powell went missing at approximately 10:15 a.m. He may have been picked up by a passing vehicle.

Anyone with information about Powell’s whereabouts is asked to call Greene Correctional Center at 252-747-3676 or notify local law enforcement.
