Hall named superintendent at Johnston Correctional Institution

SMITHFIELD – Joseph Hall, a 31-year corrections veteran, has been named superintendent at Johnston Correctional Institution.  He was previously superintendent at Harnett Correctional Institution in Lillington.

Hall began his corrections career in Virginia in 1979, after three years in the Navy.  He earned his degree in government administration and sociology from Elizabeth City State University.

He began working as a North Carolina correctional officer in 1983 at Eastern Correctional Institution. He rose through the ranks in program positions at Goldsboro Youth Center and Johnston Correctional Institution.

He has undertaken graduate studies at Norfolk State University and has completed a course in corrections management at Wayne Community College. Hall and his wife reside in Goldsboro.

Johnston Correctional Institution is a medium-security prison located along US Highway 70, just outside Smithfield.  It houses approximately 644 adult males and employing a staff of 248.
